On Wednesday, 4 September a trailer became detached from a tractor travelling along Lotherton Lane, Aberford, and embedded itself in the grass verge causing damage to a large diameter gas main.
A team of Northern Gas Networks highly trained engineers attended the scene at approximately 9.00pm on Wednesday evening to make the situation safe. Repair work is now complete and work is being done today to clean up the site.

West Yorkshire Police are carrying out their investigations at the scene of the incident, and have closed Lotherton Lane between Collier Lane and Main Street. A diversion will be in place for the rest of the day (Friday 6 September).

Although the damage caused there to be a strong smell of gas in the area, the situation is safe. There is no loss of supply to properties in the area.

Richard Hynes-Cooper, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “The incident was caused by a third party and we have been working closely with the police to help them with their investigations. Safety is our number one priority and we’d like to thank the public for their cooperation and patience whilst we carry out repairs to the gas main.”

Anyone who smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, your call will be answered at any time of day or night and an engineer will be sent out to assess the situation promptly.
