Northern Gas Networks is investing £90,000 to upgrade ageing metal gas mains in Dunford Road, Holmfirth.

The upgrade will involve replacing approximately 270 metres of metallic gas mains with more durable plastic pipes which will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The essential gas mains replacement work will start week commencing 6 January 2014 on Dunford Road outside The Phoenix Club and progress gradually towards the town centre. Work is expected to take eight weeks to complete.

Andrew Lambert, Construction Manager working for Amey on behalf of Northern Gas Networks, said: “We are working hard to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and motorists.

“Traffic Management will be installed in two phases. Firstly, from The Phoenix Club as the work progresses down Dunford Road towards the town centre. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions but will be controlled by two way manually operated temporary traffic lights until phase two is installed.”

“During phase two, vehicles will have access down Dunford Road as far as our work location but there will be no access to Towngate and Victoria Square. In addition there will be no access to Dunford Road from South Lane. Access to Dunford Road and South Lane from Victoria Square and Towngate will remain as normal for the duration of the work. Signed diversion routes will be in place to help motorists.

“Before the work takes place, a letter will be sent to residents, businesses and stakeholders and our Customer Liaison Team will be visiting residents and businesses in the area to make sure that they are aware of the work.

“We will also be holding a drop in session for members of the public at Holmfirth Civic Hall, Huddersfield Road from 5.00pm – 7.00pm on Thursday 5 December. Representatives from Northern Gas Networks, Amey, Kirklees Highways, Metro and First Bus will be available to answer questions about the work

Andrew added, “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”
