Northern Gas Networks is investing £175,000 to upgrade ageing metallic gas mains in Stanley, Wakefield.

The project is part of Northern Gas Network’s ongoing development of infrastructure across the north of England and will involve replacing more than 3km of existing metallic gas main with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.

The scheme, which is expected to take four months to complete, will commence on Lake Lock Road on Monday 21 July.

As part of this essential replacement scheme, work will also be carried out in the following areas:

Lake Lock Road / Mount Road / Lake Lock Grove – July 2014

Lee Moor Road / Rogers Court – August / September 2014

Moor Avenue / Moor Grove – September 2014

Woolford Way – October 2014

Lake Lock Drive – October 2014

In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, it may be necessary to install temporary traffic lights at various stages throughout the project.

Access for motorists and pedestrians will be maintained at all times and businesses will remain open as usual.

John Pickering, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience and support.

“Our Customer Liaison team is door-knocking residents and businesses in the area to help ensure they are aware of the work.

“We will also be holding drop in sessions to provide members of the public with the opportunity to find out more about our work, ask questions or raise any concerns.”

The drop in sessions will be held at Stanley Methodist Church, Mount Road on Monday 14 July between 11.00am – 1.00pm and 5.00pm -7.00pm.
