Northern Gas Networks is investing over £3 million to upgrade ageing metal gas mains in Halifax town centre.
The project is part of Northern Gas Network’s ongoing development of infrastructure across the north of England and will involve replacing more than 18 km of existing metallic gas main with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.
The 12 month project will be carried out in several phases to minimise town centre disruption, and is scheduled for completion Summer 2015.
The first phase will commence on Market Street on Tuesday 26 August and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the essential work and businesses will remain open as usual. Road traffic won’t be affected and access will be maintained for loading and unloading.
Wayne Fisher, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience and support.
“Our Customer Care team is door-knocking residents and businesses in the area to help ensure they are aware of the work and we have been working closely with the local Highways Authority to minimise any disruption caused.
“A customer cabin will be located on Market Street throughout the duration of the project so that members of the public can drop in and ask questions or raise any concerns. We will also be holding community forum to provide people with the opportunity to find out more about the scheme.”
Northern Gas Networks community forum will be held at Halifax Central Library on Spring Garden Road on Thursday 31 July between 5.00pm -7.00pm.
If you have any questions about the work please don’t hesitate to contact Northern Gas Networks’ Customer Care team on 0845 634 0508, option 7. The team is available between 8am and 10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am and 5.30pm on Saturday.
