Northern Gas Networks is carrying out vital work to replace ageing metal gas mains in Otley Road, Shipley with new plastic pipes to ensure the safe and reliable supply of gas for customers in the area for years to come.

The first phase of this essential gas mains replacement work, began on Monday 21 July at a busy road traffic junction with Dockfield Road.

Wayne Fisher, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said:“We know that no one likes roadworks and we would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and thank members of the public for their patience throughout this project.

“Work on site is progressing well and we are currently running approximately one week ahead of schedule.”

Mr Fisher added: “The lane closure at the traffic lights (at the junction of Otley Road and Dockfield Road) will be lifted this weekend which will significantly ease the flow of traffic in the area.

“The next phase of our essential work will continue further along Otley Rd.”

Northern Gas Networks has been working in conjunction with Bradford City Council to closely monitor the site since work began.

Mr Fisher added: “We have worked closely with the council to make a number of changes to help assist traffic flow. The temporary traffic lights are being monitored remotely from the councils control centre with timings adjusted according to traffic flow and we have extended working hours to include longer days and weekends so that the work is completed as quickly as possible.”

The project is on track for completion by the end of September.
