Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are working hard to restore gas supplies to around 350 properties in the HX6 postcode (Triangle Village) area of Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire following a pressure-related incident that occurred yesterday (Wednesday 6 August) during a routine operation while carrying out essential gas mains replacement work.

In order to carry out the repair work safely and efficiently it has been necessary to temporarily isolate the gas supply to all properties affected.

Northern Gas Networks has set up an incident room in Triangle C of E Primary School on Butterworth Lane, where hot plates will be available for those who need them while their gas supply is turned off.

Wayne Fisher, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers is our top priority and our engineers are visiting affected properties in order to isolate gas supplies so that repair work can then be carried out safely.

“We’d like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and we will be working hard to restore the gas supply to all customers affected as soon as possible and will be providing customers with regular updates on our progress. We will need access to all of the properties affected to turn the gas back and will let customers know when we need to enter their home.”

Northern Gas Networks is urging anyone who is affected by the work to check on the welfare of vulnerable neighbours and advise the on-site team so that they can provide additional help and support.

For further information customers can speak to a Northern Gas Networks engineer on site or call the Customer Care team on 0845 634 0508, option 7.

Anyone who smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, calls are answered at any time of day or night and an engineer will be sent out to assess the situation promptly.
