A £60,000 project by Northern Gas Networks to upgrade ageing metal gas mains in Kirkgate, Silsden, is set to finish a week ahead of schedule.

The project, which has required a section of Kirkgate between the junction of New Road and Briggate to be closed to motorists, with a diversion in place, was originally due to finish on August 30.

However, Northern Gas Networks’ engineers have put their foot on the gas, in order to finish the project, and reopen the road, by August 20.

The scheme has seen 200 metres of old metal gas mains replaced with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a reliable service for customers in the area for years to come.

Ian Cunningham, Customer Operations Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We’d like to thank motorists, residents and businesses for bearing with us during this essential work.

“We’re delighted we can get the road back open ahead of schedule.”
