Northern Gas Networks is investing £360,000 to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in the Alwoodley area of Leeds.
The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure across the north of England and will involve replacing approximately 5km of ageing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.
The project will commence on Monday 12 January and will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption. The work will take approximately 26 weeks to complete.
Chris Nevison, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said; “We’ve planned our work closely with the local Highways Department to minimise disruption to motorists, residents and local businesses.”
In order to complete the work as quickly as possible two engineering teams will work in parallel for the majority of the project, working extended hours, including weekends.

Mr Nevison said, “We are holding a community forum at Wigton Moor Church, High Ash Drive, Leeds, LS17 8REbetween 4 – 6pm on Thursday 8th January. Our Customer Care and Operations team will be on hand to answer any questions from members of the public.
