A seven week project is underway by the north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), to divert a gas main on Doncaster Road, Wakefield in preparation for the Wakefield Eastern Relief Road.
The work, which is taking place at the junction of the Doncaster Road and Oakenshaw Lane, began on Monday 27 July 2015 and is necessary to enable Wakefield City Council’s scheme, which is set to relieve congestion and enable 2500 new homes in the area.
In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently it has been necessary to close a single bus lane on the Doncaster Road throughout the duration of the project.
Warren Iveson, Construction Services Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said; “We’re working closely with Wakefield City Council on this essential scheme which involves a gas main being diverted as part of work to create a new relief road on the eastern side of Wakefield.
He added: “We’ve carefully planned these works to minimise the impact to members of the public. We’d like to thank customers in advance for their patience throughout these essential improvement works and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
NGN is currently carrying out planned upgrades to gas mains in Standbridge Lane and Stanley Road in Wakefield. Both projects are progressing well and are expected to be completed on time.
