Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) are carrying out emergency work to repair a gas main on Stowell Street, Newcastle.
Work began on Tuesday 5 April and is expected to continue for up to seven days.
In order to carry out the works safely and efficiently it has been necessary to close Stowell Street to traffic and a signed diversion is in place.
Access to the multi-storey car park has been maintained.
Jeff Round, Network Officer for Northern Gas Networks said: “We will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption caused.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience and thank members of the public for their patience and support.”
