The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is upgrading the ageing metal gas distribution network on the B5300 near Allonby, Cumbria.

The essential project is part of NGNs’ ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and involves replacing 900m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.

The scheme, which will begin on Monday 4 April and is expected to finish on May 6 has been planned in conjunction with Cumbria County Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

Steve Jones, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Cumbria County Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise any disruption caused.”

The works will take on the B5300, 300m either side of the Crosscanonby junction towards Maryport and Allonby.

In order to complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible there will be two-way traffic lights and a convoy system in place to maintain the smooth flow of traffic, and engineers will be working Monday to Sunday between 8am and 8pm.

Steve continued: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank customers for their patience and support while we work to complete the project as quickly as possible.”
