The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has signed up its Hull team to become a Hull UK City of Culture 2017 Business Club Partner.

The Business Club provides companies with a platform to show their support for the city and champion the 365 days of art and culture which begin in January. In return, partners can enjoy ticket allocation to events, VIP access to backstage, previews and pre-show talks unique to the UK City of Culture.

Employees working out of the Hull depot will also have opportunities to become Hull 2017 volunteers.

This is a chance to offer practical event support and welcome visitors to the city, but also for staff to act as ambassadors for Hull, helping to ensure its cultural legacy for years to come.

As a company with strong connections to the region, NGN transports gas to around 260,000 customers in the Hull area and employs around 60 people in a variety of roles across the patch.
In 2015/16, NGN invested nearly £800,000 in the Hull gas distribution network to replace 8,710 metres of gas main with more durable plastic pipe, ensuring the continued safe and reliable supply to customers in the area.

Mark Horsley, Chief Executive for Northern Gas Networks said: “Our customers in Hull show us tremendous support when we’re replacing gas mains in their streets, and ensuring the network remains safe and reliable.

“This is our team’s chance to repay that support and be part of a truly special time in the city’s history as well as its legacy for the future.”

Martin Green, CEO and Director of Hull 2017, said: “Businesses large and small have an important part to play in the success of a pivotal year for the city and we are delighted that NGN have become a Hull 2017 Business Club Partner.”

Anyone that smells gas or suspects Carbon Monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
