The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £120,000 to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in Springfields, Knottingley.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and involves replacing around 360m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project, which will begin on Monday 18 July and last approximately seven weeks, has been planned in conjunction with Wakefield Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

The scheme will start on Cow Lane on Monday 18 July at the junction of Lamb Inn Road, finishing at the junction of The Croft.

In order to complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible, traffic management measures will be put in place.  There will be two-way traffic signals introduced on Cow Lane from Monday 25 July to Monday 1 August.

There will be a full road closure on Garden Lane Knottingley, at the junction of Cow Lane from Monday 22 August to Sunday 4 September.  A signed diversion route will be clearly signposted for all motorists.

NGN’s engineers will be working Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday 29 June between 4.30pm–6pm at Knottingley Elim Pentecostal Church, Tithe Barn Road, Knottingley, West Yorkshire, WF11 9BU for anyone that has questions or concerns regarding the project.

Paul Gordon, Construction Services Area Manager Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Wakefield Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during the scheme, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting these works completed as quickly as possible.”
