The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), announced today (Monday 25 June) that Jenny Saunders CBE will be chairing a new independent Customer Engagement Group (CEG) that is being established to help shape a customer focused business plan for the future.

Jenny has over 30 years’ experience of providing policy and thought leadership to the energy industry and is a trusted advisor to the government on national energy issues. Chief Executive of National Energy Action for ten years until 2017, she has been instrumental in raising awareness of the impact of fuel poverty on the most vulnerable in society.

The CEG, an independent group made up of customers and stakeholders from across the region, will hold NGN’s stakeholder engagement to account and ensure that its plans for the next regulatory period, which begins in 2021, meet the needs of customers throughout the north of England.

NGN is assisting in the creation of the group and is looking for driven and insightful people from across the region to help shape its future plans.

Mark Horsley, Chief Executive Officer at Northern Gas Networks, said: “This is an exciting time as we move towards the next regulatory period and get ready to deliver our most ambitious business plan to date and I’m absolutely delighted that Jenny, who has spent her career speaking up for customers, has agreed to come onboard and chair our Customer Engagement Group (CEG).

“Over the next year we are going to be setting out what our plans are to continue delivering a safe, reliable and value for money service to our customers and customer engagement is at the heart of this.

“The CEG will play a key role in helping us to keep the voice of our customers at the centre of our plans. This is a really exciting opportunity to shape the future of the energy mix for the north of England and we’re looking forward to hearing from anyone that may be interested in getting involved.”

Jenny Saunders CBE, Chair of the Customer Engagement Group, said: “The Customer Engagement Group will be a powerful guiding force that shapes Northern Gas Networks’ business plan from 2021.

“As a member, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of a network that provides heat and power to over 2.7 million customers in the Yorkshire & Humber, the North East and Cumbria.

“I feel incredibly privileged to represent customers across the network at this important time. I hope you can join me.”
