The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £400k to upgrade the gas distribution network in and around West Park, Leeds.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure and will involve replacing more than 14km of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The six-week project, which will began this month, has been planned in conjunction with Leeds City Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible. In order to complete the works safely it will be necessary to introduce the following the road closures:

  • From Wednesday 25 July until Friday 3 August, there will be a closure at the junction of Luttrell Road and Spen Lane. During this time there will be a diversion in place via Spen Lane, Luttrell Place and Luttrell Crescent (or by this route reversed).
  • From Wednesday 25 July until Wednesday 15 August, the junction of Spen Lane and the A6120 Ring Road will be closed. During this time there will be a diversion via Spen Road and Otley Road or via Butcher Hill and Low Lane
  • From Thursday 16 August until Sunday 26 August, there will be a partial closure on Spen Lane (south). During this time road users will be able to turn into Spen Lane but not out on to the Ring Road. A diversion will be in place via Spen Road and Otley Road or via Butcher Hill and Low Lane
  • From Monday 27 August until Monday 3 September, road users will not be able to access Spen Lane (south) via the A6120 Ring Road. A diversion route will be in place via Ring Road, Low Lane, Butcher Hill and Spen Lane

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Russell Horner, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works. We understand this is a lengthy project and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting the work completed as quickly as possible.”
