The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing more than £500k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around Drighlington, Leeds.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure and will involve replacing more than 600m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

Starting on Monday (6 August), the project is scheduled to take approximately 19-weeks. In order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, the following traffic management will be in place:

  • During the first two-weeks of the project there will be temporary four-way traffic lights at the junction of King Street. These will be manned at peak times.
  • During the second and third week of the project there will be two-way lights on Whitehall Road between King Street and Manor Close. During peak times stop and go boards will be used.
  • During the third and fourth week of the project two-way lights will progress down Whitehall Road in 50m sections.

Russell Horner, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
