From Wednesday 24th October, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) the North of England’s gas distributor, will begin essential gas mains repair work on Copeland Lane in Evenwood, Bishop Auckland.

In order for these urgent works to be carried out safely and efficiently, and due to the location of the gas main, it will be necessary to introduce a road closure on Copeland Avenue, Bishop Auckland from outside number 2 Copeland Row, up to Evenwood Medical Practice.

The road closure will be in place from 08:00 today, Wednesday 24th October 2018 until Sunday 4th November.

A signed diversion route will be in place for motorists.

It’s expected the work will mean extended journey times so road users are advised to allow extra time for travel during this period.

Nigel Pearson, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We’re working closely with Durham County Council to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses whilst this essential repair work takes place.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
