The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) recently showed its support for the Newcastle community with a contribution of £1,653.60 to Maggie’s Newcastle.

The centre, based at the city’s Freeman Hospital, provides free practical, emotional and social support to people living with cancer and their loved ones.

NGN recently completed a major gas mains diversion project at Killingworth Road as part of a wider Newcastle City Council highways scheme, and the donation is an opportunity for NGN to thank nearby residents for their support during the works.

The Killingworth Road project was registered as a Considerate Constructors Scheme project, the principles of which are to ensure minimal impact to the community and environment whilst observing the highest standards of safety.

NGN Customer Care Officer Alex Brightman said: “We completed our project at Killingworth Road at the start of November, and would like to thank the local community for their incredible support and patience as we worked to finish it.

“Maggie’s provides an incredible service to people living with cancer in the North East and we’re delighted to be able to show our support for their work, and the residents of Killingworth Road and Salters’ Lane, with this donation.”

Karen Verrill, Centre Head at Maggie’s Newcastle, said: “A huge thank you to Northern Gas Networks for supporting Maggie’s Newcastle.  It’s only thanks to our amazing supporters that we’re able to help thousands of north east families every year.  Everything at Maggie’s is funded by the local community with donations, fundraising and gifts in Wills.  From everyone at Maggie’s, thank you.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
