The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £168k to upgrade to the gas distribution network in the Halifax Road area of Brighouse.

Works will begin on Saturday, 21st October and are planned to last approximately 13 weeks, having been planned in close conjunction with Calderdale Council.

The project will replace 1,600 metres of ageing metallic gas main with new durable plastic mains, to ensure the safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

To ensure the safety of NGN teams and members of the public during the project, it will be necessary to introduce the following traffic management during the scheme.

A road closure will be placed at the junction of Finkil Street and Halifax Road, for nine days from Saturday 26 October until 3rd November. These measures are being introduced to coincide with the school half term holiday, when traffic is expected to be lighter than usual.

Rolling two and three-way lights will then be placed on the A644 Halifax Road between St Chad’s Church and Granny Hall Lane from 21 October until 1 December.

Journey times are expected to increase because of the traffic management, so motorists and commuters are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time for travel.

NGN’s Customer Care team will be on site throughout the project to provide updates to affected businesses and residents.

Further updates will be provided throughout the scheme, posted on Facebook/northerngasnetworks and @NGNgas as well as Calderdale’s Council’s channels.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “After safety, minimising the impact of road works on our customers is our top priority.

“We have worked closely with Calderdale Council to plan this project, and understand that town centre works have a major impact on road users.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential project, and apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause as we look to complete them as safely and quickly as possible’’
