Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributer, is investing £75k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network on Chapeltown Road, Leeds.

The project, starting tomorrow (27 July) will involve replacing 80m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The works are expected to last approximately four-weeks and will coincide with the school holidays in order to keep disruption to a minimum.

Due to the nature of the works, there will be a full-lane closure (north-bound) between Harehills Avenue and Back Newton Grove and two-way traffic lights in place for the duration. It will also be necessary to introduce closures to the junctions of Harehills Avenue, Back Newton Grove, Reginald Street and Reginald Terrace. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.

James Knox, NGN Site Manager, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
