£400k upgrade for Bridlington gas network

Read

The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be investing £400,000 to upgrade the gas distribution network at Sewerby Road, Bridlington and surrounding streets in the area.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

Work will begin on Monday 10 June 2019 and is scheduled to last for approximately 26 weeks.  In order for works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to install temporary traffic signals from week 8 of the project, 29 July 2019, for the remainder of the scheme. These will start on Jubilee Avenue at the junction of St Marys Walk and continue along Jubilee Avenue, Sewerby Road and Kirkgate.

The project has been carefully planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to minimise any disruption caused.

It’s expected these works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals are in place.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Regular updates will also be available on NGN’s website northerngasnetworks.co.uk, Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook @northerngasnetworks.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Pete Knapton, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with East Riding Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Essential gas mains repair work on Kingsway South, Gateshead

Read

Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributer, will begin essential gas mains repair work on Kingsway South, Gateshead from Tuesday 28th May 2019 until Friday 31st May 2019.

Engineers have been closely monitoring a controlled gas escape located at the Coalhouse roundabout at Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead.

The work has been carefully planned in collaboration with Gateshead Council to minimise disruption to customers and road users. In order for engineers to complete the work as safely and quickly as possible, it will be necessary for NGN teams to work in the road.

Therefore, the road will be reduced to one lane at the roundabout and on Kinsgway South (Southbound).

Road users can avoid delays southbound by taking an alternative route via the Lobley Hill roundabout.

Darren Pearson, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and closing the inside lane is essential in ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all times.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep businesses and road users updated throughout the work.”

H21 named Project of the Year at Gas Industry Awards

Read

A clean energy project exploring the use of hydrogen in the gas network to combat climate change has won a major industry award yesterday (Wednesday 15 May).

H21, led by Northern Gas Networks (NGN), in partnership with Cadent, SGN, Wales & West Utilities, DNV GL and the Health & Safety Executive, was named Project of the Year at the annual Gas Industry Awards ceremony, organised by the Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA) and the Institute of Gas  Engineers and Managers (IGEM).

The event sees over 600 gas industry professionals come together to celebrate the achievements of the last year, with a judging panel made up of leading figures from the transmission, distribution and downstream gas sectors.

H21 is a £10.3 million, three-year project, funded by Ofgem’s Network Innovation Competition, working to provide the critical safety evidence proving that a 100% hydrogen gas network is just as safe as the natural gas network heating homes and businesses today.

The clean gas produces just heat and water when burned, and has been named by Government as a plausible pathway towards UK decarbonisation.

Northern Gas Networks CEO Mark Horsley said: “I am delighted that H21 has been recognised for the work it is delivering through the collaboration of all four gas distribution networks.

“Customers are ready to embrace cleaner, greener solutions in their homes and harnessing hydrogen as part of this would represent a huge step towards meeting climate change targets.”

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £150,000 to upgrade to the gas distribution network at Wakefield Road in Salterhebble.

This is the second phase of an earlier NGN gas mains replacement project, which was completed in May 2018.

The scheme is progressing well, and it’s expected that on 15th May, Stainland Road will be opened up to two-way traffic.

To ensure the safety of engineers and members of the public during the project, it will be necessary to keep some traffic management in place until the scheme is completed.

The road closure on Wakefield Road will remain in place in both directions from the mini roundabout connecting Wakefield Road and Stainland Road.

Traffic will be diverted along Bolton Brow and via the A629 from Halifax, and NGN and Calderdale Council are continuing to liaise with Urban Traffic Control to understand how traffic signals along the route can be adjusted to accommodate the increased traffic flow.

Journey times remain likely to be extended because of the traffic management, so motorists and commuters are advised to leave extra time for travel.

NGN has also liaised with WYPTE and local bus operators during the works, to develop revised bus service routes in order to minimise impact on commuters.

Through a partnership with Metro, NGN has provided a free shuttle bus linking West Vale to Elland while the one-way system on Stainland Road is in place.

This free bus service will continue until the evening of 14th May, and the usual 503 bus service will then resume when two-way traffic is restored.

NGN’s Customer Care team are continuing to talk to affected residents and businesses, and provide regular updates on progress throughout the scheme.

Updates will also be posted on Facebook/northerngasnetworks and @NGNgas on Twitter.

Chris Nevison, NGN Business Operations Lead for Pennines, said:  “After safety, minimising the impact of road works on our customers is our number one priority.

“The scheme is progressing well and we’re very happy to be able to restore two-way traffic to Stainland Road sooner than planned.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential project, and apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause as we look to complete them as safely and quickly as possible.”

Essential upgrade to gas distribution network at Bradley Road, Huddersfield

Read

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £74k to upgrade to the gas distribution network at Leeds Road/ Bradley Road in Huddersfield.

The essential works are due to start on Saturday 24 May and will last nine days. This is the second phase of an earlier NGN gas mains replacement project, which began in 2017.

The project is a continuation of NGN’s ongoing development of Huddersfield’s gas infrastructure, and involves replacing a small section of existing metal gas main with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

This work has been planned closely with Kirklees Council to make use of the Spring Bank Holiday, in order to minimise impact on traffic.

The timings of the works will not impact the planned events taking place at the John Smith Stadium.

On Monday 13 May, a community drop-in event will be held at the Bradley and Colne Bridge Working Men’s Club, Colne Bridge Road, Huddersfield HD5 0RH, between 5pm and 8.30pm.

NGN engineers and the Customer Care team will be on hand to provide updates on the works, and answer any questions residents or local business owners may have.

In the meantime, NGN’s Customer Care team are continuing to speak to affected residents and businesses about the project, delivering letters detailing the timings of the works and the traffic management involved.

Due to the complexity of the engineering works involved, and to ensure the safety of our teams and members of the public, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management measures during the scheme.

The following measures will be in place from 7pm on Friday 24 May until 5am on Monday 3 June.

  • The eastbound carriageway of the A62 Leeds Road will be closed between the junction of Oak Road and the A6107 Bradley Road.
  • The right hand turn into Oak Road from Leeds Road will be suspended, as will the right and left turns into Oak Road from Bradley Road.
  • To keep traffic flowing smoothly from Leeds Road to Bradley Road, Oak Road will become one-way.
  • Three-way lights will be used on Oak Road and Bradley Road to keep disruption to a minimum during the scheme.

Advance warning signs will be placed on the route two weeks before the scheme and NGN will use the permanent directional signs to direct traffic as much as possible and reduce the amount of free-standing signs along the routes. Where this cannot be achieved, signage will be put in place to direct the traffic.

The traffic management is likely to affect journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel while the temporary measures are in place.

Updates on the works will be provided throughout the scheme via @NGNgas on Twitter and facebook.com/northerngasnetworks

Chris Nevison Business Operations Lead for Pennines, said: “We would like to thank all our Huddersfield customers for their patience whilst we complete this essential project, and would like to apologise for any inconvenience the works will cause’’.
