£120,000 investment in gas distribution network in Clayton Road, Jesmond, Newcastle

Read

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing around £120,000 to upgrade the ageing gas mains in Clayton Road, Jesmond.

The essential project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves replacing over 300m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The seven week project, which is due to start on Monday 14 August 2017, has been carefully planned in conjunction with Newcastle City Council.

The ageing metal gas mains have required several emergency repairs in recent years.  NGN has prioritised the pipe for replacement this year to minimise any inconvenience caused by future leaks.

NGN will endeavour to complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible and will provide regular progress updates throughout the project.

In order to carry out works safely and efficiently, on street parking will be restricted.  Works will progress from the junction of Osborne Road to the junction of Abbotsford Terrace.  The work will take place in the right hand side of the carriageway, progressing towards Great North Road.

In order to maintain parking for residents and keep disruption to a minimum, Northern Gas Networks plans to complete the work in 30m sections – replacing the gas main and then backfilling the excavation before progressing along the road.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local homes and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will provide advance notification to road users.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Richie Manuel, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Newcastle City Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter, and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care team on 0800 040 7766, option 3 or email customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

NGN backs Leeds junior football with Wigton Moor tournament sponsorship

Read

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), threw its support behind junior football in Leeds last weekend, sponsoring Wigton Moor Football Club’s annual football gala.

NGN is currently investing £300K to upgrade ageing metal gas mains with new, more durable plastic pipes on Alwoodley Lane, Leeds.

The essential works, which will be completed in August 2017, are registered as a Considerate Constructors Scheme project. As part of the Scheme’s pledges, NGN’s Customer Care Officers explore ways to support local communities in which work is taking place.

Customer Care officers visited Wigton Moor FC to learn how NGN could help make a difference to the community while work continues.

The gala, which was held on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June, is one of Yorkshire’s biggest youth football tournaments and attracts around 3,000 children and their families from around the county.

The money raised through the gala is reinvested into the club, which runs 29 teams for boys and girls aged 6 to 19.

Matthew Davenport, Head Gala Organiser for the club, said: “As you can imagine, the on-going costs of running this club are really high and most years we struggle to make ends meet. So, the money we raise from the gala is vital as this is the biggest single fundraiser for us.”

‘’Support from local businesses is crucial to enable us to continue to give young people the opportunity to play football so we’d like to thank NGN for sponsoring the day.’’

Katherine Lee, Customer Care officer at NGN said: “It’s lovely to support a great football club that does so much for children in the community our works are taking place in”

Read

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), has been forming new friendships after visiting Middlesbrough community group Stepping Stones Friendship Group and supporting Marton Community Centre.

NGN is currently carrying out a 22-week essential gas mains replacement project on Birchwood Road, Middlesbrough, which involves replacing 10km of old metal pipes with more durable plastic ones.

The £860,000 investment project, which began in May is registered as a Considerate Constructors Scheme site.

As part of the Scheme’s pledges, NGN’s Customer Care team visit local schools and charities to explore ways of making a difference to the lives of people living where engineers are working.

Stepping Stones Friendship Group

Jackie Gibson, Customer Care Officer for NGN and engineer Dave Parkinson, have been working alongside Stepping Stones Friendship Group to raise awareness of Carbon Monoxide and highlighting the dangers it presents.

Stepping Stones Friendship Group supports people in Middlesbrough who are bereaved and live alone. The group ensures that everyone who visits maintains a social life and has a friend to talk to.

Jackie and Dave provided vital information on carbon monoxide poisoning as well as updating the group on the gas mains replacement works taking place on Birchwood Road.

Beverley Cave, a member of Stepping Stones Friendship Group said: “Jackie and Dave’s interaction with the group was great; the information given was spot on and made for an informative and interesting afternoon. The majority of the group didn’t have Carbon Monoxide alarms and so now we will be purchasing them.’’

As well as visiting Stepping Stones, NGN has donated £500 to Marton Community Centre, which houses a number of groups including an arts and crafts group and youth club.

Community Care Officer, Jackie Gibson said: “At NGN we fully appreciate the impact our works can have on customers, and would like to thank the local residents for their patience and understanding. Their co-operation has been fantastic throughout.  As a small gesture of thanks we would like to contribute £500 towards the local community centre.”

NGN supports Pickering Community Park project with £1,000 tree planting donation

Read

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is saying thank you to the town of Pickering with a special contribution to support a local environmental project.

NGN invested £205,000 to upgrade ageing gas mains on Hungate earlier this year, in a 12-week project which saw old metal mains replaced with new, more durable plastic pipes.

The outstanding co-operation of local businesses and residents helped NGN engineers finish the work on schedule so to thank the community for their support, the gas transporter has contributed £1,000 towards Pickering Town Council’s tree planting scheme.

The scheme is due to begin at the Woodlands Community Park in 2018, which will provide recreational space for the people of Pickering across 22 hectares.

Mayor of Pickering, Helene Haythorne, and NGN Customer Care Officer Kati Sexton, walk and talk along a stretch of trees, on the ground that will become a public park in Pickering. NGN has donated £1000 for tree planting on the site.

NGN Customer Care officer Kati Sexton recently handed over the cheque to Councillor Helene Haythorne, the Town Mayor of Pickering, who said: “On behalf of Pickering Town Council, I would like to thank Northern Gas Networks for their generous contribution of £1,000 towards our tree planting scheme at the Community Park.

“Given the size of the park a considerable number of trees will have to be planted to soften the landscape and make it less exposed the elements.

“This donation will help fund what is going to be, over the years, an ambitious tree-planting scheme.”

Mayor of Pickering, Helene Haythorne, and NGN Customer Care Officer Kati Sexton

NGN Customer Care Officer Kati added: “At NGN we fully appreciate the impact our works can have on customers, and would like to thank the local businesses and residents of Pickering for their patience and understanding. Their co-operation has been fantastic throughout.

“We understand the town is investing in tree planting and recreational space, and as a company working hard to ensure minimal impact on the environment this is definitely a project NGN wants to support.

“As a small gesture of thanks we would like to contribute £1,000 towards the scheme.”

£450,000 investment in gas distribution network at Cottingham

Read

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £450,000 to carry out an essential gas main connection project, which will feed a new power station due to be built on Park Lane, Cottingham.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development and investment in the area’s gas infrastructure and involves laying over a kilometre of new gas main to reinforce the gas network.

This will help to maintain pressure during the winter months and ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The 10-week project, which is due to start on Monday 3 July 2017, has been carefully planned in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.  NGN will begin the works in the summer months to ensure connections to the power station are completed in time for the winter period.

Due to the location of the gas main and in order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce various temporary traffic management measures for the duration of the project.

Starting on Monday 3 July 2017, a road closure will be in place on George Street between Northgate and Hallgate for around four weeks. During this time, a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists but access to George Street and Hallgate will be maintained via a one-way system only.

From Monday 3 July, a road closure will also be placed on Hallgate between the junction of George Street and Barnyard Avenue for around four weeks.

As works progress, temporary two-way traffic lights will then be placed on Northgate for approximately one week from Monday 31 July.

Whilst the temporary traffic management measures are in position, signed diversion routes clearly displayed for road users with pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

It’s expected these work may cause some delays to journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel during the road closure. NGN will endeavour to complete these works as soon as possible, and will provide updates on progress throughout the project.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual, and there will be no effect on gas supply to local properties while the works are in progress.

NGN will be holding a community forum at Cottingham Civic Hall, Market Green, Cottingham, HU16 5QG between 4pm and 5.30pm on Thursday 29 June 2017, where customers can drop in to find out more about the works and ask the NGN team any questions they may have.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local homes and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work happening in the area.

Robert Hope, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We are working closely with the local council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.
