Essential upgrade to gas distribution network at Great Horton Road, Bradford

Read

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £210k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around the Great Horton Road area of Bradford.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Bradford and is due to start on Monday 15 April, lasting approximately 10 weeks.

The scheme will involve replacing nearly 800 metres of old metallic pipe with new durable plastic pipe, to ensure the safe supply of gas for years to come. The project has been planned in close  conjunction with Bradford Council, to minimise any disruption caused.

To complete the works safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management during the project.

Rolling two and three-way temporary traffic lights will be placed on Great Horton Road, between Shearbridge Road and Richmond Road from Monday 15 April until 23 June.

A road closure will be introduced at Back Laisteridge Lane at the junction of Great Horton Road for around two weeks, from 20 May until 2 June.

A full signed diversion will be in place for motorists during this time.

NGN’s dedicated Community Care Officer has been in the local area speaking with affected businesses and residents to make them aware of the upcoming works. A public drop-in session has also been held for local residents.

Anna Mycoe, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible”.

Update: Essential gas mains upgrade in Market Weighton

Read

Work to upgrade the gas distribution network in Spring Road, Market Weighton, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for many years to come is entering its final phase.

The £350k upgrade has seen around 4km of new modern plastic pipe installed underground, and engineers are now getting ready to complete the final phase of the project, which will involve connecting properties to the gas main in the street.

In order to complete the next part of the work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to put some temporary traffic management in place.

From Saturday 6 to Monday 8 April there will be temporary two- way traffic lights on Finkle Street, outside Finkle Court. This will be followed by three-way traffic lights on Market Place at the junction with Londesborough Road from Monday 8 April for up to two weeks.

NGN has worked closely with East Riding County Council to plan the traffic management, which has been arranged to coincide with the school holiday period in order to help keep disruption to a minimum.

Site Manager for the project, Gerry Hart said: “We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we complete these essential works. We know that no one likes roadworks and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused while we carry out this planned upgrade to the gas pipes.”

NGN is also working in nearby Langdale Road where engineers are replacing around 1.2km of ageing metal gas mains with modern plastic equivalents. Work in Langdale Road is due to be complete by the end of May.

£450k upgrade to gas distribution network on Newall Carr Road, Otley

Read

From Monday 8 April the North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will start work to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network on Newall Carr Road, Otley and surrounding streets in the area.

The £450,000 30-week project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves replacing 5.5km of existing metal gas pipes with more durable plastic ones. This will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

While much of the project can be carried out without traffic management, in order to complete the final phase of the project safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to install some temporary measures to manage traffic flow.

NGN is working closely with Leeds City Council to plan the work and associated traffic management to minimise the inconvenience caused and will share more information as soon as the measures have been agreed.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Richard White, Business Operational Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’ll be sharing more information about the planned traffic management as soon as we have more details.  In the meantime, we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”

Essential upgrade to gas distribution network at Wakefield Road, Salterhebble

Read

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £150,000 to upgrade to the gas distribution network in the Wakefield Road area of Salterhebble.

This is the second phase of an earlier NGN gas mains replacement project, which was completed in May 2018.

The works are due to start on Monday 15 April and will last around 10 weeks. They are a continuation of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and involve replacing 400m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

This project has been planned in conjunction with Calderdale Council, to take place at a time which will not impact the ongoing improvements to the A629 Halifax Road, in order to minimise disruption to customers and commuters.

Due to the complexity of the engineering works involved, and to ensure the safety of our teams and members of the public during the project, it will be necessary to introduce traffic management during the scheme.

From Monday 15 April until 23 June, Wakefield Road will be closed in both directions from the mini roundabout connecting Wakefield Road and Stainland Road.

Traffic will be diverted along Bolton Brow and via the A629 from Halifax, and NGN and Calderdale Council are currently liaising with Urban Traffic Control to understand how traffic signals along the route can be adjusted to accommodate the increased traffic flow.

Stainland Road will become one-way from Monday 15 April until Sunday 23 June, with traffic directed via the A629, and motorists able to use the first or second slip-road off the A629 depending on destination.

To ease traffic flow around Elland Bridge, Saddleworth Road will be made one-way with access from the Elland Bridge side. Traffic travelling from the West Vale side will be diverted into Elland and back round onto Elland Bridge. A fully signed diversion will be in place for all motorists.

It’s expected that journey times will be increased because of the traffic management, so all motorists and commuters are advised to leave extra time for travel.

NGN is liaising with WYPTE and local bus operators to develop revised bus service routes during the works, in order to minimise impact on commuters. Through a partnership with Metro, NGN will provide a free shuttle bus linking West Vale to Elland during this time.

Bus users can check for changes at https://www.wymetro.com/ and https://www.firstgroup.com/halifax-calder-valley-huddersfield , and local bus stops will also have information regarding the free bus service.

Advance warning signs will be placed on the route two weeks before the scheme and NGN will be using the permanent directional signs to direct traffic as much as possible, and reduce the amount of free-standing signs along the routes. Where this cannot be achieved, signage will be put in place to direct traffic.

NGN’s Customer Care team will be speaking to affected residents and businesses ahead of the works, and providing regular updates on progress throughout the scheme. Updates will also be posted on Facebook/northerngasnetworks and @NGNgas as well as Calderdale Council’s channels @CalderdaleHighways on Twitter and Calderdale Council on Facebook, and @MetroTravelNews on Twitter.

Chris Nevison, NGN Business Operations Lead for Pennines, said:  “After safety, minimising the impact of road works on our customers is our top priority.

“To ensure commuters are disrupted as little as possible during the project and thanks to close collaboration with Metro and Calderdale Council we have arranged for a free bus service linking West Vale and Elland.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential project, and apologise for any inconvenience the works may cause as we look to complete them as safely and quickly as possible.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Essential upgrade to gas distribution network on Marton Road, Middlesbrough

Read

The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is carrying out essential works to upgrade the gas distribution network in and around Marton Road, Middlesbrough.

The £10,000 project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves connecting a gas service onto an existing gas main.  This will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

NGN is working closely with Middlesbrough Council to plan the work and to minimise the inconvenience caused.

For the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic management measures in and around Marton Road at the junction of Marton Way.   The remaining works have been planned to coincide with the school Easter holidays when we expect traffic in the area to be lighter than normal.

From Friday 12th April 2019 until Monday 15th April 2019, there will be two lane closures in place on Marton Road for the full duration of the scheme and a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists.

It’s expected these works will cause some delays to journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals and road closures are in place. As the works are also directly outside James Cook University Hospital extra time should be allowed for those attending.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking residents and businesses to make customers aware of the project’s latest phase, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Regular updates will also be available on NGN’s website northerngasnetworks.co.uk, Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook @northerngasnetworks.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Steven Storey, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Middlesbrough Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”
