Upgrade to gas distribution network, Idle, Bradford

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £129k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around the Westfield Lane area of Idle in Bradford.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Bradford and is due to start on the 7th of January and last for approximately ten weeks.  The scheme will involve replacing 542 metres of old metallic pipe for new durable plastic pipe, this is to ensure the safe supply of gas for years to come.

To complete the works safely and efficiently we will have the following traffic management in place:

A road closure will be in place on Westfield Lane junction with High Street, this will be in place from the 7/1/2019 for three weeks. A full signed diversion will be in place for motorists.

 Four way traffic lights on the junction of Westfield Lane/ Highfield Road and High Street from 28/01/2019 for approximately two weeks. This will then move to two way lights on high Street for approximately two weeks from 11/02/2019.

The traffic lights will then return to four way lights on the roundabout, High street/ New Street/ Idlecroft Road for approximately two weeks starting 24/02/19.

Our dedicated Community Care Officer has been in local area speaking with businesses and residents to make them aware of the upcoming works.

Essential upgrade to gas distribution network on Skellgarths, Ripon

The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be investing £20,000 to upgrade the gas distribution network at Skellgarths, Ripon.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project has been carefully planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to minimise any disruption caused.

Work will begin on Monday 21 January 2019 and is scheduled to last for approximately one week.

In order for works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to implement a road closure on the B6265 Skellgarths, for the full duration of works.  The road closure will be in place from the junction of Wellington Cottage to outside number 2 Skellgarths.  Access for residents at Wellington Cottage will be maintained.  There will be no through road for residents at Water Skellgate.

A signed diversion route will be in place for other road users.

It’s expected these works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the road closure is in place.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Essential upgrade to gas distribution network on Forest Lane, York

The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be investing £220,000 to upgrade the gas distribution network at York Recycling, Forest Lane, York.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project has been carefully planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to minimise any disruption caused.

Work will begin on Monday 7 January 2019 and is scheduled to last for approximately 8 weeks.  In order for works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to install temporary two-way traffic signals on the A19, around 100 meters from South View.

It’s expected these works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals are in place.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Essential upgrade to gas distribution network on Skinner Street, Whitby

The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will be investing £150,000 to upgrade the gas distribution network in and around the Skinner Street, Whitby area.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves replacing approximately 650m of existing metal gas pipes with more durable plastic ones.  This will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The ageing metal gas main has required several repairs in recent years.  NGN has prioritised the pipe for replacement to minimise any inconvenience caused by future repairs.

The project has been carefully planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to minimise the impact caused.

Work will start on Monday 7 January 2019 and is scheduled to last approximately 9 weeks.  In order for works to be carried out safely and efficiently, during the first week of works, temporary traffic signals will be in situ on Skinner Street at the junction of Flowergate and there will be no left turn onto Flowergate.  Whilst these traffic signals are in place, a signed diversion route will be in place for road users.

In addition, it will be necessary to suspend parking on Skinner Street at various stages throughout the project.  Suspended parking will be staggered throughout the project to minimise any inconvenience caused.

£60k upgrade to Yeadon gas distribution network

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £60k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in Kirk Lane, Yeadon.

The project, which starts on January 2, 2019, will involve replacing 350m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The four week project has been planned with Leeds City Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

From 2nd January, Kirk Lane will be closed between New Road and Copt Royd Grove, for approximately four weeks. During this time, the only access will be for residents and deliveries, as there will be no through route. A signed diversion route will be displayed and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Engineers will be working between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.  Extended working hours will be applied where needed.

Update – Gas mains replacement works at Edgerton Road, Huddersfield

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is making a significant investment to replace the ageing gas main at Edgerton Road in Huddersfield.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Huddersfield, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come and is due to complete in March 2019.

In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, and protect engineers and members of the public during the scheme, it has been necessary to introduce some traffic traffic management.

The existing four-way lights at the junction of Edgerton Road have been replaced with temporary three-way lights on Blacker Road, Edgerton Road and New North Road.

In addition, a road closure has been placed on Edgerton Grove Road, with a fully signed diversion route taking motorists to the A640 Trinity Street, Fitzwilliam Street and the A629 New North Road.

NGN expect to remove the temporary lights and the road closure by 6pm on Friday 22 February.

NGN’s Customer Care team have kept customers updated on progress throughout the project, and will continue to provide updates as the work continues.

Upgrade to gas distribution network at Wakefield Road, Hipperholme

The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is making a significant investment to replace the ageing gas main at Wakefield Road in Hipperholme.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the Halifax area to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas for years to come.  Work will begin on 3rd January and is expected to complete on 9th February.

In order to complete the scheme safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management.

A road closure will be placed on Wakefield Road at the junction of Leeds Road from 3rd January until 25th January 2019.  A clearly signed diversion route will direct motorists to the A649 Wakefield Road, A641 Bradford Road, Whitehall Road East and the A58 Leeds Road, and vice versa.

NGN’s dedicated Customer Care team have been speaking to local schools and businesses about the works, and will continue to update customers on progress throughout the project.

NGN says thank you with donation to Maggie’s Newcastle

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) recently showed its support for the Newcastle community with a contribution of £1,653.60 to Maggie’s Newcastle.

The centre, based at the city’s Freeman Hospital, provides free practical, emotional and social support to people living with cancer and their loved ones.

NGN recently completed a major gas mains diversion project at Killingworth Road as part of a wider Newcastle City Council highways scheme, and the donation is an opportunity for NGN to thank nearby residents for their support during the works.

The Killingworth Road project was registered as a Considerate Constructors Scheme project, the principles of which are to ensure minimal impact to the community and environment whilst observing the highest standards of safety.

NGN Customer Care Officer Alex Brightman said: “We completed our project at Killingworth Road at the start of November, and would like to thank the local community for their incredible support and patience as we worked to finish it.

“Maggie’s provides an incredible service to people living with cancer in the North East and we’re delighted to be able to show our support for their work, and the residents of Killingworth Road and Salters’ Lane, with this donation.”

Green Fleet award for NGN’s Fleet Manager Mark

The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is celebrating a top award for fleet sustainability and low emission transport.

Mark Squires, NGN’s Commercial Fleet Manager, was named Private Sector Fleet Manager of the Year at the 2018 Green Fleet Awards, held this November at Elland Road in Leeds.

The awards highlight industry excellence in the drive towards cleaner, greener vehicles for business.

As the gas distributer for the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire, NGN’s fleet performs an essential role in maintaining a safe and reliable gas network for around 2.7 million homes and businesses.

As NGN fleet manager, Mark has championed the low/zero emission agenda within the business and also externally, by encouraging manufacturers to accelerate progress across the Light Commercial Vehicle sector.

He has also overseen the introduction of compressed natural gas vans,a hydrogen fuel cell Toyota Mirai and worked with key manufacturers on the development of full electric 3,500kg vehicles for industry.

“Minimising the environmental impact of a large operational fleet is a top priority for NGN, and that begins by encouraging awareness, uptake and adoption of low and zero emission vehicles within the business” said Mark.

“Working directly with manufacturers means we’re able to action change faster and demonstrate that there is a market for cleaner, greener vehicles in large fleets which can deliver huge benefits, in terms of air quality and the environment.”

It’s expected these works will extend journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals are in place.
